Slowing down computer

Dec 6, 2003 11:04PM PST

I store my digital photos on Drive C and its about
80% full. My question is, if I leave my stored photos
in My documents will that slow down my computers
speed? I have a 128 GB hard drive and I've noticed that my computer is a little slower as I use photo
shop 7 and that when I check the Task Manager I also see that photoshop isn't cleaning up after itself and the ram usage doesnt get smaller after I exit a photo. The only way I can reduce the ram usage is to restart photoshop.Mybe thats whats slowing down my computer. Thanks

Re:Slowing down computer or discussions about Windows memory management.

One of the long standing discussions which I will only write about this once for you (no need to duplicate prior works) is that Microsoft's design is to keep DLLs and more in memory to speed up the response time. The effect is not to slow machines down as some expect.

Instead I would try to clean up that hard disk since you will notice hard disk speeds to vary as they fill. You can also review the following:

1. The Anti-Parasite Suite in which I list the most common detection and removal tools for pests. After all I've seen, my policy is zero-tolerance for what these tools find. Your choice on the matter -> http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0

2. I suggest light application of system cleanup as noted by Black Viper's site at http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

3. I strongly suggest you don't make strong connections to memory in-use to system speed. I hinted at this being heavily discussed and feel I must re-iterate it.

4. Photoshop. It's a nice program, but is known to be a system hog. You'll want their latest with latest patches.

Best of luck,

Bob
