As to the printer drivers, I'd ask if there are newer.
Hi, I just got a new powerbook G4, and a new samsung ML 1710 printer, and the printing is very slow or fails. I'm printing a pdf (15 megs, made in acrobat 4.x) out of my acrobat reader 5.0. It similarly failed out of Preview.
What happens is that the first print dialog takes a very long time (over a minute per page), and then either a few pages print, ending with an error page (which reads: PCL6 ERROR -FALSE Position Ox4d2b47c (80917628) SYSTEM: WSIM/xl_tbl LINE: 400 VERSION: QPDL 1.14 09-28-2002; the 'position' numbers are different each time), or nothing prints at all. The printer dialog box doesn't seem to show that anything is wrong, it either indicates that the job prints, and then is finished, or that nothing is happening at all (no jobs).
The system seems to be overloaded, in that fewer pages print when I send more pages. If I print a couple of pages out of Safari, Word or Pages there's no problem although it's not lightning fast either (this is the only other print work I've tried). But it still crashes with the .pdf even if I send 10 pages at a time! And a multi-page .tiff simply gives a 'printer error' when I tried to print from Viewer or Acrobat (after processing for a few seconds only). Does anyone have any advice? I had some trouble installing the printer driver, and in the end I think I had to download from apple a set of printer drivers for Jaguar--is this the cause?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
