Slow startup + My Computer showing nothing = trouble?

by dshefley / May 5, 2006 4:20 AM PDT

First off I'll explain what happened to my last two desktops, then maybe you guys can tell me if it's killing my laptop too.... My cat. Yes, my cat. She jumps up onto my "desk" or "25 dollar more like a table than a desk" to jump up into the basement window. Now the reason my last two desktops went was because she'd use them as the landing pad, smashing them each time along with this "desk" shaking like it's about to break. That killed the hard drives, so do you think the shock from the desk shaking is killing this laptop's hard drive too? I'm not sure if maybe it was just a random slow startup or if I should replace this one and then either try to find an alternate form of desk or reinforce this one with titanium or something. Actually I just talked to my mom and she said she saw an old desk in the paper or something she was thinking about getting me, but should I still replace the laptop? I'd hate to have to get all my programs and whatever again. Is there some sort of hardware test I can run? It's hard to tell if it's damage, or the fact this thing only has 512MB of RAM.

Any ideas would be super, thanks now and thanks later.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
