"slow shutter speed!" i used to own a kodak easyshare cx4230

Sep 25, 2005 9:50PM PDT

i loved it. it took awesome photos, the price was right on the money, was very durable. however, it took forever to take a photo.

so, i sold it. it was time. at 2.1 mp, it had a good life, and i'm ready for something more responsive.

so i've been reviewing cnet.com and epinions.com trying not to make the same mistake again. but every review seems to have the same complaint here and there, "SLOW RESPONSE!"..."shutter lag slow" ... "flash lag" .... "Hesitant shutter ruins photos"

you get the idea.
i liked the easyshare a lot, but i would have to guess when something might take place... or leave it on incase happens. because i needed "that pic" (haha).

so, what i'm asking is.. has anybody found a nice, responsive point & shoot.. you know, a lot of bang for your buck? i'm looking to spend around $120, and would like 4mp w/ at least 2x optical.

i was looking at the canon a series, but now i'm starting to lean towards another easyshare:
Kodak EasyShare CX6445 Digital Camera
4.23 Megapixel, 4x Optical Zoom, Standard Point and Shoot, Video Capability Included, 1.8 in. LCD Panel, Built-in, MMC

...or something similar. this newer model has a 1/1400 shutter speed compared to the old 1/2000.

would it be worth it to spend the money buying a slr camera?
does anyone own a nikon coolpix or a sony point and shoot? what about fuji finepix? fast shutter speed is something you have to pull up via system specs. it's not easy to do a side x side comparrison based on such a thing.

does anyone want to brag on their cam? thanks! heidi

Shutter Lag
Sep 26, 2005 12:41AM PDT

With digital cameras, when you talk about the "old days" you don't have to go back very many years.

In the days of the CX4230, most digital cameras had a painfully slow shutter lag. The big joke then was to get someone to take your photo.....when you see them press the shutter button.....run from the picture.
They end up with a photo of no-one.

I have seen more than one photos of someone's feet. They press the button and then lower the camera....then the camera finally gets around to taking the photo.

The past two years, the camera companies are making headway against long shutter lag.
Casio has it down to 0.1 to 0.3 second on their cameras.
Kodak too is doing well with shutter lag.
Canon has been a mixed bag.
..Some replacement cameras are slower than the one it replaced.
..i.e. Canon A510.
Sony lag is usually about 0.3 second.

...
