Slow response

WinXP SP3 and Avast antivirus.Wireless net connection. Can anyone offer any advice on this problem please ? When clicking on desktop icons like Docs or Photos the window opens immediately but when doing the same on any icon that uses the net it can take up to 35secs to open. Once opened the response to any actions inside the window is immediate. Also seem to have long start-up. Over 3mins from switch-on to ready to use desktop.

Do you mean the icon on your Desktop for your internet browser?

If so, which browser?

Or do you have all of your most visited web pages saved as files on your Desktop? If so, why not use Favorites, (IE), or Bookmarks, (Firefox).

Hi Mark--Yes I do have icons on desktop for most used sites. Am I overloading it. Just taken me 55secs to open this page via my browser icon.
I have Int exp 8 which then links to google for mail and searching.Do I need both of these or is there a better way of going about this as I'm not too experienced user but would like to keep google. Also how can I get rid of 2 items that have found there way into my task bar. They are ''desktop and My Docs'' but they appear to be outside the box containing the usual stuff like Anti V, NET Connection and clock etc.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
