Slow loading of pages

Aug 5, 2005 12:08AM PDT

I have a friend that is having a problem with some pages loading very slowly. It is only some pages and only on 1 computer. The desktop is Win2000. This is where the problem is. It is hard wired into a Linksys router. He also has a laptop with WINXP home with a wireless connection to the router. The laptop runs just fine. The pages load as rapidly on the laptop as I would expect. The same pages take roughly 10 times as much time to load. I watched happen several time. Which browser he uses does not affect the time. IE or Netscape both act the same. I would tend to believe it is a problem with Win2000. It has all of the service packs installed. Why would a desktop directly connected to the router load slower than a laptop with a wireless connection? Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot this woul be appreciated. Thanks, Vince Radice

A few examples of pages loading normally and pages loading this slow might help to get an idea of the cause. There should be some common factor, I'm inclined to say, if it reproducible.

Further conversations indicate that (1) Problem is reproducable (2) Sites related are Financial and Parental control (3) Pages that load are after logging into a secure site (i.e. not open to all). This means that I cannot get at the pages because he must sign in first. Is there any plugin that will monitor IE and log load process? That is, examine page description and timestamp load progress - request item, receive item, display item.
