Slow internet download speed

by mnprowildman / January 18, 2018 6:03 PM PST

Charter Cable recently upgraded their speeds in my neighborhood from 60mbps to 100mbps. Online Speed tests show 100mbps download, however, when I download a file off I'm getting an actual download speed of on 450kb/s. This is about the same for some other sites. I called a tech and he did replaced some wiring and the problem still persists. He tells me something may be preventing my pc from achieving a higher download speed. Has anyone experienced this issue? Please help. Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

Well it depends on the source from which you download the file. What do you download and provide the source

Possibilities of low internet speed
by Cyclops1983 / January 19, 2018 7:13 AM PST

Is the speed that your getting the same for other websites?
Hope your calculation of speed has to do with Mbps.
Mbps means megabits per second. Mb is used for download and upload speed. MBps stands for megabytes per second.
MB is used for file size.
This website gives you some details on MBps, Mbps as well as how long it will take on downloading different media files:

If you have an anti-virus software, it scans the data so the speed may reduce during that process
Also check if there is an app that slows down/ blocks internet speed

Your speed test results returned a download speed of 100 mbps, which is good. However, the Internet speed is being slowed down from the their Internet transmission's endpoint which is your computer.

100 mbps meaning 100 MBps.
Note: People often use mbps instead of MBps in ISP tickets.

Large downloads may slow down the speed at which your computer delivers Internet to your browser. It depends on the NIC and the make of the computer. There is the possibility that Wifi connectivity is only having this download speed slowdown. Try downloading the files you are having a slow speed issue with while downloading, using the wired connection to isolate where the slowdown is originating from. From there, you may be able to pinpoint if Wifi is this download speed problem's source.
