i don't know why changing the power supply would have any effect unless your computer was overheating. you really need to scan with 2 or 3 spyware scanners to have a good chance of removing everything. ask Compaq if they have a program to monitor the temperature of the CPU and see if it is slowing down because of overheating. bring up Task Manager and look under Processes. sort by CPU consumption to see what's on top.
Herb....
I am running a Compaq Presario 5000. It has 512 MB of Ram and a P4, running Windows XP. It is from around 2001. It has done fine till latley. Now it is getting really slow for about ten seconds, then normal. Like when typing ill type and it takes a while for the letters to come up. I just replaced the whole power supply and I though that would solve the problem. It doesnt get slow as often but it still does every now and then when a lot of programs are running. There are 47 running processes in the task manager and the cpu usage is usuall around 60 or 70. But sometimes it will stay around 90%. Is this normal? AOL seems to eat up cpu too.I have Ad Aware and it hasnt solved the problem. I went to HouseCall, found viruses, no changes. Took some programs off the start up but still no luck. Oh yea, my power supply fan is blowing pretty hard. Please Help! Thanks
