A XP "thing" is to set the DMA to PIO and then back to DMA. Note at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx

Okay so I know that "SLOW COMPUTER" could mean anything so here is the breakdown:
-Ran a virus scan (Norton)
-Updated virus definitions, and ran scan again (Norton)
-Ad-Aware SE personal (updated and run)
-Defrag and Disk cleanup (restarted)
-cleared history, deleted cookies, and unused files in Internet explorer.
The computer is an HP desktop that has a 120 GB harddrive (89GB left) 1 Ghz of ram and it is STILL SLOW! - after ALL that
It is running XP home and the only other thing I can think of is installing service pack 2.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know!
Thanks!!
