Check if any recent updates or s/w upgrades have been done. That any recent h/w was added and/or driver updates as well. If any was done return, using the "restore" feature to a date that the problem didn't exist. Further, while you're up and running back-up ASAP any important data, etc. just as a safeguard.
Even though you did a virus scan, your AV must updated to the latest release to check status. Any malware from a visited website or previously trusted one should checked as well. In no way take anything for granted, check it. You can visit most AV websites to do an online scan, check other than Norton's to get a clean bill of health. A list should be available of scanning websites at the "virus and security forum".
Slow booting can also be a device that's starting to fail and just isn't 100% during boot-up but recovers enough to allow the boot to finish or has been noted and not critical to stop the boot. You should look at the "event log" for any possible clues as a source. A weak power supply can also be borderline and is becoming less stable. A loose wire harness or cable to the devices can be touchy, just reseat them several times with *power-OFF* and then retest. Look at all the fan when cover off to verify they're running well. AND if you haven't yet clean out the dust bunnies to allow for better cooling.
Your problem can be anywhere as you get a booting system afterall, is hard to pin-point.

My wife is running Win XP Pro on a AMD Sempron 3000, ASRock MB, 2gig ram , 160hd. Just the other day it started to boot very slowly. It seems to be hanging up during the bios part of the boot. Once it gets to the Windows boot screen it does fine. The boot is taking a good 2 minutes. Once booted, it runs fine.
Have done a full system scan with Norton, Ad-Aware, and Registry Mechanic. Is something getting ready to take a dump? Any suggestions? I am somewhat computer literate...
I'm trying to avoid one of the worst things that could happen in my life.... Her computer crashing. HELP!!!!!!
