Slim Portable BluRay Writer

Good morning I would like some advice about a problem that even whit instructions I can not resolve it.
My PC is Sony VAIO SVD11225CXB; 8 Gb RAM;170 Gb HD free; Window 8.1. I bought some time ago a small Blue ray Writer Samsung SE 506 BB and according it accept Window 8 but it does not function at all. Could be 8.1 ?. Tanks in advance for your answer.

Then either it's defective, or you do something wrong.

I take it for granted that "not at all" does mean you don't see it get a drive letter in Windows Explorer if you connect it and put a blue ray disk in it. It doesn't even show the disk is in it (by rotating or showing a LED). All you can do is to press the eject button to eject the disk.

Thank you for answer. When I bought the BR I had Window 8. The BR connected it ,the PC recognized it , the LED "on" and the disk rotate but it stop and it didn't show any advice on the screen. Actually the PC has W 8.1 and doesn't even recognize the Writer even with the LED is "on" an the disk rotate inside . I tried to find and download new driver (?) but I could not even on the SAMSUNG . Ver1896
