General discussion

slight change...???

May 4, 2005 12:06AM PDT

What is the chance of swapping NEXT MESSAGE & REPORT OFFENSIVE POST?

I don't recall ever seeing an offensive post, but I know I have to do an EXTRA click to get to NEXT MESSAGE.

ALSO, is NEXT UNREAD MESSAGE really necessary??? To me it is just UNNECESSARY clutter.

Over all C-NET ( and previous ZD help) is a GREAT site, really appreciate all the help I have received over past years

Thanks

Ben

Re: next 'unread' message

in a thread with many 'sub-threads', "next unread" is indispensable...

imagine a 300 post thread with 15-20 sub-threads without "next unread" your finger would die clicking "next.next...next.....nex....

position of NEXT MESSAGE
May 4, 2005 4:08AM PDT

I like the current position of Next Message.

Being on the top, instead of the bottom of the message, means that the position remains consistent as you click through a thread.

Since most messages are just a few lines, or just a few paragraphs, I can easily keep my cursor in one position as I read successive messages, most times.

If the Next Message link was on the bottom of the message then I would always have to reposition the cursor to read the next message.

Ahhh...Bently...."Report Offensive Post"..

I see you have never visited the SpeakEasy forum. I would extimate that the button has been hit more than 1000 times last year. I don't read SpeakEasy that much this year, but with some of the old diehards and new members, it may hit a new record this year. LOL.

"NEXT MESSAGE"
May 8, 2005 12:50AM PDT

OK, I admit I am lazy... but when I finish reading a post, I usually find my pointer right next to..."REPORT OFFENSIVE POST", and I have to scroll up or down to see "NEXT MESSAGE".

It ain't much, but it is just another unnecessary step.

I quit using MSIE years ago for the same reason, (before security problems) ALWAYS more clicks than Netscape and later Mozilla, to accomplish the same thing.

Its not the end of the world, but if the lower "REPORT OFFENSIVE POST" and "NEXT MESSAGE" were switched, it would save at least one keystroke.

OK, people use REPORT OFFENSIVE POST, which gets the most use???

Thanks
