My guess is that C: partion from the XP PC was formated NTFS, while the recover Partion on the drive was formated
FAT32. Since W98 can't use a NTFS partion it ignores it and will only see the FAT32 recovery partion. If you delete anything it is gone for ever. W98 can support more than 4 drives, but having the NTFS partion will confuse it. So get a new MB or a new computer. If you put xp drive in a Windows 2000 or XP PC you will be able to axcess your files. John
My XP machine died in a serious way (toasted motherboard, to be exact) and in order to save some of my files I slaved the hard-drive to my old, back-up Windows 98 machine. Fortunately, the Win98 machine recognized that there was a second hard-drive and I could even open it and see all the files there. Unfortunately, My Computer's "D:" drive is the recovery partition, not the actual drive itself. While it is nice and all to have a completely non-functioning recovery partition, I would much rather have my AP Eng papers. I saw that this new "D:" drive replaced one of my optical drives, so I unplugged both just in case Win98 could only support four drives (which I figured might be a reasonable reality). Unfortunately, again, this did not solve my problems. I was thinking of deleting the partition (I believe I have seen this option on FDisk before), but I am not sure if it is possible to do this or if it might compromise other data on the drive.
Your input is greatly appreciated!
