Skype/Intel Deal

Feb 14, 2006 8:09AM PST

I remember reading that Skype are to cap sone non-intel cpu-ed computers to 5 people per call where as on Intel cpu-ed systems that number of people on the line at the same time will be 10?

Did I read wrong - as the podcast did not say any numbers.

That's correct.

Our bad for not making the cap level specific. Still hold to my opinion that it's a bad idea.

Just checking!

I read the story quite a while ago (can't remember where, but I think I got there via news.google.com)so was just checking.

Still, its a bad idea, can they not just do a bit of math and work out how many people can be on the line at the same time based on the computer config present in the call?

Don't understand

If the conference is being hosted on the Skype servers, why would it matter what processor the conference participants have?

Forget it, just use Gizmo, they give you free voice mail (and always have)

I was thinking that too...

its not like video where you have many feeds coming to you, its like audio, one feed to the server and one feed back,

or maybe you get all the feeds back, is if it were a few calls... hmmm

why skype

This is exactly why AMD is taking legal action against Intel. I know that both party had to agree to this deal but for skype to do something like this and for Intel to even think of doing this just to get more market share in the chip market when you already control 95% that stupid.
