Ok... Here's the situation... Using WinXP Pro (SP2 w/ Updates)...
Any skin installed from an actual downloaded file, into Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 10), will not apply visually...
( For Example:: )
http://theskinsfactory.com/skinsfactory/?page=fvportfolio&id=138
Instead, the Skin Mode will revert to the "Corporate" Skin...
That is NOT to say that new Skins cannot be installed at all...
Again, for example, if the Skin is (litterally) installed from a website that actually "installs" the Skin, then the Skin will properly display in Skin Mode...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/getmore/skins.aspx
Now... There are some idiosyncracies about this situation...
When the (downloaded file) Skin is tested on Media Player 9 (WMP 9), it will display properly in Skin Mode irregardless of the (previously mentioned) install methods...
However, when Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 10) in installed (both Clean install or Update Install), the Skin will display as the "Corporate" Skin (as mentioned above)...
Now... As far as the Version Integrity of the downloaded Skins themselves, they have displayed properly on Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 10) previously... Thus, are compatable with the Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 10) format... But, again, ONLY when installed from a website that actually installs the Skin (Online)... For instance, when Microsoft advertises a "Featured Skin" ( http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/getmore/skins.aspx )...
So, from the observed characteristics of this problem, it would appear to be an discrepancy in the install method's ability to update the Registry properly::
HCU\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Skins\
and
HU\*\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Skins\
Further note... If the Skin is installed (by double-clicking) from a downloaded file, and the [View Now] button is clicked, the Skin will display properly... But when the Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 10) is closed down, and then re-launched, the Skin reverts once again to the "Corporate" Skin...
I hope that I have been clear in communication about the problem which I am experiencing, and I hope that someone else out there could offer a solution to this matter...
Thank you so very much, for any advice you may have...
Take it easy, any have a good one...
