Sitting back on a day off, sucking down beers and ...........

listening to the music in my library.

I got to "Dion" and started to reminisce about him,an Icon and he only has me by "6"yrs...lol.

For those who don't know,Dion is a born again Christian. He became such after he was offered a seat on the plane($65) that eventually crashed, killing:Buddy Holly,Richie Valens and The Big Bopper in '59.

Dion turned down the seat, telling Buddy Holly:"Crap man,the rent on my parent's apartment in the Bronx is $65!,give the seat to "The Bopper".Unfortunately the rest is history.

Please take the time to listen to the two versions of this song to see if you agree with me:

Here's the original version with a 19yr old Dion and The Belmonts singing "I Wonder Why" in '58:

Here's a version of the exact same song sung by a 70yr old Dion, live in '09!!

Damn, for a 70yr old dude this guy still has some "lung power",God bless him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i admit i haven't 'followed his career' but
his religious thing was more in the mid 70s IIRC

i also read somewhere (in Time/Newsweek) that he's now
a fully immersed Catholic and into "prison ministries"

but buddy holly is still my all time favourite

Buddy Holly...

My favourite as well. You could hear his songs maturing as his career developed. It was a sad day, that Feb. 3/1959.

I stand corrected on a few points Jonah.....................

Yes,you're correct about his spirtual journey.

And according to Dion, the price of the plane ticket was $36,not $65!

I believe his wife was the cause of him going Catholic Happy In my opinion, one of the most beautiful songs he ever wrote/sang was about the first time he saw his wife,Susan.

He recorded it in '93 and I believe it was released in '99? If anyone has never heard "Shu Bop",it's worth 4 min of your time to listen to his lyrics.
