Question

Site not showing

Apr 19, 2016 10:08PM PDT

I've recently switched my domain host servers and I get diverted to the page with '/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi' tacked onto the end. I've contacted both the old and new hosting companies' support and both say it's fine on their end. It doesn't work on any of my devices (my and my wife's phones, laptop, desktop) and I'm waiting to here back from friends about whether they can access the site. I'm not sure what I should do!

Clarification Request
(NT) can you FTP to it at either server?

No
Apr 19, 2016 10:19PM PDT

Just the new server.

- Collapse -
what does that mean?
Apr 19, 2016 10:46PM PDT

You can ftp to the new server? Using your domain name?

Answer
Also remember
Apr 19, 2016 10:48PM PDT

it's takes a few hours or a couple days sometimes for DNS to catch up to where the new host is.

- Collapse -
It's been about a week.
Apr 19, 2016 10:51PM PDT

And how do you mean 'ftp to it at either server'?

- Collapse -
You have a domain
Apr 19, 2016 11:03PM PDT

or maybe more than one. You changed either their registry or hosting or both. Previously on the older hosting service it worked. Now neither place seems to be working. You can't contact anything on either server when trying to ftp to any or all domains you own? Did you actually set up hosting account on the new server? You are leaving so much unsaid, I'm having to try and guess what you did, or mean to say.

Can you reach the control panel or ftp into your domain name at either server???

- Collapse -
Sorry to be so vague
Apr 19, 2016 11:34PM PDT

I really don't get why there's a problem. I can access the control panel for the new host server. I cannot access the control panel for the old host. When trying to access the site I'll get a security warning of phishing in Chrome and an "Account suspended" message with the old host's logo in Firefox and IE. I've contacted both the old host and the new, both have responded that they can see the site on their respective ends. The dns records all look fine and the nameservers are pointed to the new host. One thing that confuses me (of the many things) is that the dns A records in the control panel for the new host are pointed to the host's server, but the A records on the domain name provider's site is pointed to a different address.

- Collapse -
Ok I think I know what this is
Apr 19, 2016 11:43PM PDT

You haven't cleared your password for your old doman at the previous site from your browser have you? You using a bookmark to try and get to the old host? You also need to remove the cookies in the browser to the old site. Next, go to the control panel for the new site and get the ftp for that site setup. Be sure you don't just have domain name transferred, but actually have a hosted account too.

Yeah, that needs correction and like I said, sometimes it takes a while for DNS changes to get spread around. Why not change your router's DNS to what google provides instead of your ISP, because it gets updated almost immediately.

Go into your router and change the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Old domain name, new host
Apr 20, 2016 12:24AM PDT

I've cleared the cache and cookies a number of times. The first thing I did when I got the new host was to remove the bookmark from the old host's control panel and bookmarking the new host's control panel. I've uploaded all of the files for my site (or at least I think I have, no way to check it out). I'm fairly well completely lost as to what to do or what terms I need to use in a search to figure out what's going on.

Still confused
Apr 20, 2016 12:12PM PDT

I know it is uncouth, but I must bump this thread: I'm thoroughly confused as to what action I should take next. I apologize for any issues arising from my "response" and I understand if I'm being perceived as impatient, but this is a site for business and I've already gone too long without being able to properly access it.

I missed how we can look at this site.
Apr 20, 2016 12:48PM PDT

Maybe it's just a DNS thing but without a full URL, I can't check on it from here.

Of course!

I feel silly as all get out! Here's the site:

NSLOOKUP says.

So let me try a direct to http and blammo.
http://158.69.127.72/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi does not work.

This means you are likely sharing an IP with many sites. I don't see your web host so I can't check it out but if you were trying to reach it by IP address it will blow up.

Plus any antivirus, web shield could blow up on this sort of hosting. Or you are not filling in the usual index.html. I don't run your site or host so I can only see it from the outside.

Okay
Apr 20, 2016 4:09PM PDT

Thanks a bunch! Not sure how it'll turn out, but you've at least pointed me in the right direction.

As for the errors, there are only 2 types: the alt attribute and the <div> issue. I've never used the alt attribute and while it's true that the previous element isn't closed with the <div> issue, it's not closed because it is a <div> encompassing the other <div>s.

I can connect to catbent.com and....
Apr 20, 2016 9:47PM PDT

your facebook page too from the coding in the html page.

when I ping the domain name, I get the same IP address that Rob got. When I use that IP address, I also get the error page.

When I run a traceroute (tracert in windows system), it times out at this Host.

try this ftp
Apr 20, 2016 9:52PM PDT
ftp://158.69.127.72/

ftp://catbent.com/

You should be able to signin on both of them.
It's possible the host blocks direct IP access? Only allows connect by domain names? Part of their firewall system? If that's what it is, then you are all setup already.

I can't access ftp://catbent.com: it just continually asks for verification. I can get into ftp://158.69.127.72 no problem and it's no issue to get into the cpanel. I'll check to see if I need to alter some security settings or something.
