Question

Single user account slow to mount server

Aug 3, 2012 5:08AM PDT

On a Mac with Snow Leopard, it is taking a user 10-15 minutes to connect to a Windows server via SMB or AFP.

If a different account logs into the Mac, they can mount the server quickly.

Any suggestions for a fix?

Thanks!

Answer
Try making a new account for that user.

make a new account, test the mount speed there and then move them to their new account.

That sounds good in theory. I am just curious as to if there is a file that is bound to a user account that I could modify instead.

Maybe.

But given no one pays me to dive that deep into it, I've cured such things by moving the user to a new account and if they gripe about the user name I'll delete the old account and then move them back.

Maybe someday someone will pay me to dig into this but for now they seem to go for the cure and nothing more.
