Single File Scan

by Ken Deyell / October 5, 2010 12:35 PM PDT

Since I have updated to AVG Free 2011 I am not able to scan a file by "right clicking" on it and then "scan with avg".However if I open the main AVG console\ individual files and select a file it scans it properly. The right click feature worked fine with my previous ver. 9 OS Vista home premium.I have not made any other changes. The only thing I can think of is with this new version of avg it has to be opened before the "right click" feature will work.

Hello Ken Deyell,

mentioned situation was previously mostly caused by conflict with other extension installed into "right-click context menu", where solution was uninstallation (deactivation) of that extension or updating related application to latest version.

To check this possible conflict please download and run Microsoft Autoruns application. Then choose tab "Explorer" and disable (untick) one-by-one extensions at list:
HKLM\Software\Classes\*\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers
HKLM\Software\Classes\Folder\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers

- to find possible conflict one. Effect should be immediate after untick (restart should not be needed). You can then tick the non-conflict ones back (to enable them)

Please inform us about results of this process and which extensions are you using.

Thank you

Ondrej...thx for th prompt reply. One entry in each section you listed that being "avgse.dll" Unchecking any combination did not correct the problem. It was noted unchecking the "entry" in HKLM\Software\Classes\*\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers it removed "scan with avg" in the right click context menu. This same entry "avgse.dll" is also listed in section HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved which I have now unchecked as well.
Being i'm a one click kind of guy Happy I'd like to have this feature working, but I can work around it by clicking on my "avg shortcut" on my desktop, and then right clicking on the selected file.Should I even consider rolling back to ver.9?

Hello Ken Deyell,

I would like to ask you to continue in your AVG Free Forum post (should be still opened and filled with my next steps) as it provides better features, especially attachments possibility.

Else, if you do not want to continue at AVG Free Forum, please save Autoruns output and compress it (zip file). Upload the compressed file to favorite online storage and provide us with link to it, so we can analyze it closely.

Thank you

Thx for giving me so much attention here. I do not see the "attach feature" in this forum so I will return to my post in AVG forum.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
