Question

Simulation network with pfsense

Feb 23, 2016 2:11PM PST

I have a course at the university which requires us to configure a simulation network with GNS3.
In this network is a pfsense firewall with a WAN interface (connected to the internet) and 2 internal subnets.
The setup also includes port forwarding from one subnet to the WAN interface. We also had to set the redirection port to 80 and the destination port to 80 on the pfsense.

The questions we got about this setup are:
Why the entry needs to set two ports, destination and redirection?
Could the two fields have different values and if so when would this be useful?

Does anyone know the answers to these questions?

Answer
This sounds like this is for you to dig into.

The answers would be in your text or books. And if stuck you ask your TA or prof. What good is getting the answer if you can't explain it?

This is a laboratory and therefore no assistance is given we have to solve it on our own. Our text book does not reveal anything about this specific configuration and i also tried google but didn't get any results.
I get that an answer is not worth much if I can't explain it but isn't the explanation here the answer?
I would already be helpful if you could provide a push in the right direction

Let's say it's a bum question.

Sometimes there's an error in the assignment so if you feel this is not something you can find on the web (which is huge on networking) then back to the TA or prof and tell them it's not in the text or web. Ask them where the source is.
