Simply Accounting-Reverse incorrect Session Date/Year

Jan 4, 2008 11:25AM PST

I have Simply Accounting 2007 Basic. I was trying to switch over to a new year in Simply today and instead of switching to a new "calendar" year it switched me to my new "Fiscal" year. This is a problem as my fiscal year does not start until April 1, 2008. Does anyone know how I can change my date back to January 1, 2008? It seems my back up disk has not been backing properly so I can't restore using it! I tried to find my CAB file on my hard drive but none of them seem to be my last back up date of Dec 31, 2007. PLEASE...I need help or I can't finish my 2007 fiscal year and I will be in trouble!

This program seems to be one the worst accounting programs available and the same seems goes for the support. Read through http://www.google.com/search?q=%22simply+accounting%22+site%3Aforums.cnet.com to see if you agree with my rather blunt statement.

If you don't have a recent backup, all I can advise is to start all over from 4/1/2007 in a new account. Just reenter all your transactions and you're done.
Better find out about backup and restore first. You wouldn't like to do it a third time if anything happens.

Kees,

Thanks for your help. I went with Simply Accounting because my sister has used it for years and I knew she could teach me. Yes there are problems but usually I can work through them. Luckily I found a back up disk that had my transactions up until Oct 31, 2007 so I only have to redo 2 months. I have ALOT of transactions in a month so redoing my whole year would not be an option. Krystal Services could have fixed my problem but for about $250!! I would rather spend my time then my money! I have learned my lesson about checking my back up data disks, don't worry...I won't make that mistake again.

Thanks again.

Change fiscal year back to 2010 from 2015
Apr 24, 2010 1:04AM PDT

When the treasurer tried to close 2009 and set up for 2010 it year was inadverdently closed several times and as a result it is now set for 2015. Is there any way the fiscal year date can be set back to 2010 or do I have to uninstall, install and build the account list all over again. Thanks

similar problem
Apr 28, 2010 12:42AM PDT

I am wondering if any solution was found to George D's issue. I similarly changed my calendar year to 2011, tried to correct it, and ended up in 2012. I did back up my 2009 data; when I restored from that backup, I was able to get to 2011, but am unable to change back to 2010. I use SA 2008, and do not profess to be a computer or accounting genius by any means! Any suggestions and/help would be greatly appreciated..

Simply Acc - New Year date issues
Feb 2, 2010 3:24AM PST

I'm using SA2003. There are 2 related issues I think.
#1, when I finalized 2009 & set up for 2010 one copy (?) of SA is on my desktop & I can access 2010 from that, altho' the title bar on the home window reads "2009". All the data in this folder seems to be correct. How can I change the name on the title bar?
#2 - in the main SA database window, if I click on 2009 to open that & go to put in the session date, it will not allow me to enter a date in 2010, but says the date must be between 1/1/2011 and 1/1/2012. I have no idea how that came about, altho' in Dec. when running a report it would suggest ending the report in 2010 (I believe this was in the Acc Rec module)

Any suggestions for correcting these issues? Thanks

New year increased to 2015 when closing 2009
Apr 28, 2010 3:21AM PDT

I contacted Simply Accouting and the only advice they could give me was to restore my Dec 2009 back up. Needless to say that didn't work. Only other option was to unstall and reinstall the program and set up the new year balances by hand. Did that but have decided to go to Quick Books.

Thanks, George...I appreciate your response. There definitely appears to be a theme relating to Simply Accounting and their support...or lack thereof!

changing dates
Aug 24, 2010 4:52AM PDT

I am using an old version 8.5 and when I reconciled my bank account it was for May and was posted as June. I am now trying to post June and it will not let me. The trouble is June is my year end and cannot proceed until I fix this. I have tried to re-install the program and it is not working. Does anyone know how to override the date? Thanks.
