Simple Wireless Networking Question

Feb 2, 2007 5:50AM PST

I'm travelling to my parents' home this weekend so I thought I'd look for a remedy to a problem. For some reason, my laptop won't see my father's wireless network. Simple problem...there must be a simple answer.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with onboard wireless B/G and I have zero problems connecting to ANY other network that's unencrypted. His network is open and he can connect with his new HP laptop and his old Dell laptop with no problems. My brother can also connect with his Dell laptop.

I know it's simple, but I'm being vague because I'm not going into specific settings....but is there something easy I'm missing here? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

One I run into is the SSID broadcast is disabled.

While this shouldn't cause it to fail, it can.

Sorry if that's not it but your post omitted detail.

Oops forget another common issue.

Some machines and combos don't work. Try something easy like SSID enabled on the router and 64-bit WEP.

Look for it at the wireless gateway device.
