Simple question about an adapter for DVD/VCR

May 2, 2010 12:43AM PDT

I have an old VCR/DVD player and TV. I bought a new VCR/DVD player. The jack that had the threaded projection that I had to tighten the nut to keep it on ("Antenea in or out") is not there, but there is a coaxil jack. But it looks like the others (the red white and yellow jacks) Is this where I should put in the coaxil that went into the old antenea jack? That means I need an adapter, corect? What kind of adapter would I need. Thanks! This was a Birthday preset for my husband and I can't get it to work.

Sorry to say but...

this unit you just have do not have a tuner (not like the old one). The co-ax connection you noted is an digital audio connector. If you need one with tuner, you have to look for a unit with a built-in tuner. Good hunting.

Thank you! Maybe I didn't explain myself very well when I called, but both radio shack and another store said I could use an adapter. Your advice sounds correct, though. Thanks for the suggestions.

I should be looking for a "coaxil digital output" on the player, right?

Ok, let's see if we can get it clearer;

Let's forget about that yellow co-ax for now. I don't think you are interest in that.

The old combo has a tuner, dvd player and it may or may not recorder, and the vcr may or may not record as well. So make sure which you want to have and get the correct one.

Did you want to record off-the-air TV stations or do you have cable? For OTA reception, the unit needs to have a built-in ATSC tuner (atsc is digital).

By-the-way, which recorder did you have ?

Records dvd or records tapes.

Simple question

I don't need to record anything I just want it to play both DVD and VCR. It gets very complicated because we do not have cable but a converter box on the TV with a regular antenea and we only get two channels. (We like it that way!) It is a wire jungle back there! But we do enjoy movies - VCR tapes and DVDs - so when the DVD portion of the combo went bad, I got a new one. The old one was a "Emerson EWD2004 DVD/CD player with video cassette recorder." I am going to return the new one and I will look for one at the store with a coaxil screw type jack. But if they don't have it I will use your suggestions to get a new one online. Would that work? Thanks

Return may not be necessary.

This will depend on what kind of input connection/s the TV have. On the combo unit I am pretty certain that it has composite output connections, which is yellow, red, and white RCA type connectors. What's the model of the new combo unit; and what is the model of the TV?

Since no recording function is necessary, this should simplify things tremendously.

not so simple simple question :)

The TV is a RCA 2004 model #27R410T and the new player is a Magnavox DV22OMW9. As I said, the converter box makes it a mess back there. A neighbor had to help with the converter box and there ia a three way conector and a mess of wires. There are three jacks in the front of the TV. (yellow white red) but I was hoping to use those for a ROKU netflix wireless player. Hope this helps.

Yes the (yelloe, red, white) is what I was looking for .

One solution to this maybe to get a video switch box. That way you can switch the ROKU and the dvd/vcr combo. Or you could use the tv remote to find out if you have more than one composite connections. If the tv has selection for vid1, and vid2; that means there is another composite in the back (and I am pretty sure there is one..if it's not already used up).

Instead of the switch box, or...

you could also use the s-video connection.

s video

There is a s video connection on the bck of both the TV and the new palyer. I will try it when I get a cable for it. Thanks!
