Question

Simple but complex network

Feb 4, 2015 9:37PM PST

Hello.
I need to implement a wifi network that has to be put over an existing lan.
Unfortunately I have several floors to serve, in each of ones, I need to expose two wifi networks with different SSID.
Each floor has a switch connected to LAN, here I'll cable the appropriate device.
I need that employees connect to one SSID WPA2 that connects to LAN, meanwhile customers connect to the other SSID (Open) that connects to internet but doesn't go on LAN.
I foresee to use a zeroshell server as Router and Captive Portal.

Mainly I need to understand if there is a way, and possibly how to, separate the two networks belonging to the two relative SSIDs without having to phisically separate them.
If I can, which kind of Wireless device do I need?

I know that some routers have multi SSID, and so, different network settings for each connection but my question is how can I grant that the user that connects on the open network can't see the LAN?

Sorry for the complicated question but it's maybe conceptually simple.

I'd call a datacom company to install this. They have the knowledge to know what you need, to set it up, both physically (cables, devices) and logically (network parameters, like the subnetmasks, and protection), tune it (location of wireless transmitters, switches) and to support it during its lifetime.
I don't think this is a DIY job.

Thanks for your reply, but this doesn't help much. Wink

There are companies that will talk to you about this.

Cisco, Ubiquiti and so on. I'm guessing you want to learn how to design and deploy this so it's time to learn more. Here's Ubiquiti's training page.
