Sim card

Mar 9, 2004 4:33AM PST

My cell phone LG G4010 issued to me by Cingular Wireless suddenly ceased to make calls and was notifying me "emergency calls only". The cingular store rep. said my Sim card had "burned up".The sim card shows no damage and the Rep performed no test just you need a new card ( 3 months old) and that will be $25 .Can anyone verify that this was a legitimate call by the "rep

Hold up 25 bucks (don't hand it to him) and say "Show me."

Hand over the money if it works.

Not so easy BOB. They use the substitution method and seem to care less about wether the card is actually bad. I asked the rep what could have "burned out" the card and got a big DUH!!!

Substitution method.

For 25 bucks, you will not find out "why?"

My background includes "root cause analysis" of some missile components and in short, a costly exercise. Now that I'm in the real world, we can't do that except on medical hardware. Too costly.

If you want a "why" or "what", then be prepared to pay much much more money.

I hope you understand that I understand your concern, but people rarely can afford the answers.

I am one of those reps for Cingular and we see sim problems frequently. The number one reason for a card to go bad is related to changing the security pin. If you try to change a pin and get a message that you have entered an incorrect pin (or something to that effect) DON'T KEEP TRYING! You need to call customer service and get the pin assigned to your account. Three bad attempts and your sim is locked out and there is no way to get back in.

Other than that, you should have no sim problems unless you have a gait phone (Nokia 6340 or Ericcson T62). With these phones you will have to replace the sim after any esn change (like when you get a loaner phone while your phone is out for repair) or if you need to change your phone number.

Although it seems suspicious if your situation does not match the information above, if replacing the card solved the problem, then the rep, indeed, did the right thing to replace it. You should call customer service to see if you can be reimbursed for the expense.

Hi, there are two types of Lock Stage... one is the PIN, and the other is the Subsidy Unlock... as with the PIN, the Main PIN 1 for Cingular is 1111 and SIM PIN 2 is 2222, if you enter three times of wrong PIN then the Pin will be BLOCKED, once it is BLOCKED, only Congular Customer Care will be able to unlock them and all you need to do is to enter the New Pin. If this carries too much (5 Times) of unblock, the SIM will consider as "{Burned)", and the Word "Burn", it can have two matters... 1) Carrier Burned the Card for you, e.g. Sim Card Change, Account Closed, and/or Sim Card Stolen, this will actually not be able to do the "CPR", the SIM is consider as "Dead". As with the Phone, there are always a Sibsidy Lock for the carriers, if the Subsidy lock enter 10 times mistakes, then it will "Burn the Phone" and "The SIM", which the Manufacturer will have to "SCRAP" the phone, and the SIM can be put it in your Home Museum for the SIM Card History Personal Records.

Hope this Helps...

P.S. When I said "Burn" it does not mean "Smokes" or "Electric Lighting", it is just a term for "Dead"!

Good Luck!

i am a cingular rep and i have had alot of sim card burn outs lately it is true that a sim card can burn out via sim blocked and also i have seen that an overcharge of the phone setroyed that card itself but check the sim card in another phone and make sure that the phone isnt the real problem if it is determined it is the sim card than check with another cingular direct location and tell them the situation and they might do it for free, discounted or just apply it to your bill.

First of all, please check the dates of the post, this was started in 2004.

Secondly, what are you saying in your post?? Makes absolutely no sense and is utterly useless to anyone.
