Silly question about HDMI sound

Dec 11, 2008 5:21AM PST

Hello, I am curious about an aspect of the HDMI connection between LA32A550 and HT-Z210. I purchased this tv and the home theater system as a bundle. They also came with a free HDMI cable and this is how I connected them. I was wondering whether it is possible to get TV (standard analogue cable broadcast - mostly mono some channels in stereo) sound through the home theater via the same HDMI cable, or do I need to use classic 2 channel sound output from the TV and connect it to an aux port on the home theater system?

The manual is a bit vague about this. It says "to listen to digital audio, connect your tv through the optical input on the HT", but this tv has no optical sound output. Right now I am using the stereo out to aux in method, and happy with it as the broadcast is awful anyways. But if there is a way to do this through the existing HDMI connection, that means one less cable in the mess...

Thanks in advance for all the input...

First of all, sorry for the late answer, I was on a business trip. And thanks a lot for the assistance.

The model is called LA32A550, and it was purchased in the Philippines. The model for the home theater system is HT-Z210.

Thanks again...
