Question

Signal loss LCD TV LN40B540

by gbQC2011 / October 20, 2011 12:12 PM PDT

Hi,

I'm experiencing the following issue with my LN40B540P8FXZC (40" LCD 1080p) bought in december 2009:

I had digital tv signal from standard box using the classic AV composite cable and no issue except low resolution.
Then I bought a BlueRay player (Sony) and used a HDMI cable. The TV started to show intermittent loss of picture AND sound for about 1/2 second (box with time and resolution appears on top left hand side) and some white flashes on black background (white pixels) also very quickly (similar to camera flashes in tv programs).
This is a random phenomena but more frequent with DVD converted in 1080i, with fingerprints or scratches. BlueRay are a lot less affected.
Now I have upgraded my TV box to a HD one. I connected the HDMI cable to the box and the TV. I have the same issue than on BlueRay. I tried all HDMI connections on TV but same issue.
Then I removed the HDMI and tried the components cables provided with the box. Same issue. I tried 2 sets of component connectors on TV, same issue.
Then I tried the composite connector on both box and TV and NO PROBLEM. However I have lost the HD quality.
I forgot to say that the blank screen/sound issue appears on both HD channels and non-HD channels. I have a second Samsung TV (720p) connected in parallel to the box and it does not give the blank screen when the other does.
My conclusions:
1/ This is not a terminal box issue since it appears also with the BRay and the second TV works fine and the composite works fine too.
2/ it is not a cable issue since I used HDMI, and 2 different sets of components (one is a good gold plated set).
3/ it is not related to the HD signal since it is also an issue with non HD channels (but only when a component or HDMI input is used)
4/ it is not a specific tv HDMI/components input since I tried all of them.

My conclusion:
Could it be a high sensitivity of the TV for signal quality coming thru the components/hdmi inputs?
Again, TV HD is crap because of frequent losses. BRays are not so bad. DVD 50/50.

ANY IDEA???
