SigmaTel Driver problems

Jun 1, 2009 8:21AM PDT

I have installed Win 2K Pro, SP4 on an Intel D975XBX2 system (which supports W2K). Reason for W2K is that I have large amount of software acquired over the years not supported by Vista. Any problems I'm having may still exist with an XP upgrade, so I would like to stick with my present OS.

I initially had difficulty installing the driver for the onboard sound, but while it appears as if I finally got the driver successfully installed, I still have NO SOUND. I was hoping that someone might have some suggestions. Here is an outline of the attempts taken so far:

Fresh install of Win2K Pro + SP4
Install Intel INF_allOS_9.1.0.1012_PV Inf file package.
Install AUD_allXP_5682_PV_IDT_v006_IAS.exe from the intel web site - Audio driver.
At this step the installation received an error message- systemroot\system32\drivers\sfng32.sys could not locate entry point _CIcos in driver ntoskernl.exe At reboot there is a bsod message.

Did some research on the net and made this next attempt:

Fresh install of Win2K Pro + SP4
Install Intel INF_allOS_9.1.0.1012_PV Inf file package.
Microsoft UAA Bus driver update for HD Audio
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, 5.10.5258.2 driver

This results in no errors at install or reboot. Driver applet is in systray. Mixer and setup utilities all seem to work properly. The PROBLEM is that NO SOUND is sent to the speakers! Sources are all unmuted, volume is up, speakers are plugged in and powered (Tested).

I appear to be missing a patch or a step.

Anyone work through this issue with this board or OS/hardware combination?

Time to text edit.

Find someone who does have a post of a good driver config file for what you need. Text edit the driver with scite to match it. Back up the file by adding ".old" to the file copies name. Do this from a Live CD so that you can also re-set the old config if necessary.

Easy Solution

Why dont you just use one of the available driver diagnostic software tools it's a lot easier and I guess you will be able to get the right drivers to go with your hardware, examples include driver detective, driver cure e.t.c please see: www.fixyourdrivers.com

Sigmatel Audio Problem
Jul 6, 2010 3:21PM PDT

I was stuck and couldn't figure out how to get the Sigmatel audio driver I had to work on my laptop, a Dell Inspiron. What fixed it for me was to go back to the Dell site under my model and install something under the Applications section called Sonic Solutions Application - Digital Media. Then the yellow exclamation point came off and the HD sound worked.Sigmate
