SideBar overlapping Desktop Icons if moved to LeftSide.

Jul 10, 2009 4:17PM PDT

How to solve windows own Side Bar overlapping Desktop Icons if moved to Left Side in Windows Vista Operating Systems.

Google Side Bar automatically moves Desktop Icons, when placed to Left Side but Windows Vista's own Side Bar does not.

This is a long time problem faced and ignored but thought of asking now for any possible solution.

Please send solution if found to my email directly.

Have you tried

Have you tried right clicking an empty part of the desktop and make sure "align to grid" is ticked and "auto arrange" is NOT. Then just drag your desktop icons to where ever you wish on the desktop.

That is a crude solution for the issue. Google Side Bar does not need such manipulation.

Why Microsoft is negligent on such basic features of their own Side Bar?
Also in fact it should be possible to place Side Bar on any sides and corners, without overlapping Desktop Icons.

The "Why" is widely discussed.

Did you want to start yet another discussion about that? Microsoft software is well known to be pushed out with barely good enough this and that. It is not perfect and never pretended to be.

But today I'm encountering more people than ever that are surprised about that.

Sidebar has been dropped...
Jul 11, 2009 2:15AM PDT

Microsoft removed the Sidebar from Windows 7, leaving just the gadgets, movable to any position on the screen. Thus, development/tweaks of Sidebar have ended. For the time being, that leaves you with manual alignment of icons or choosing the 'Always on top' option. It could be better, indeed, but it could also be far worse.

Maybe a new obstacle course?

Maybe we need to put new owners through a course.

Altair 8800
Apple ][
Commodore PET
IBM PC DOS (upgraded to a two floppy drive system!)
Windows 1 then 2 then 3.1
Windows 95, then ME then NT 4 to 2000, XP and

Then see if they see the pattern.

IBM 360
VAX
