Personally, I hope the ACLU and the mother sue the school and the authority into bankruptcy.

And busy doesn't cover it - our workload has doubled literally, the whole country is dropping like flies with this damn flu epidemic. Not the quick 24-hr type either, this one last days, then goes... then flares up again a while later.
Know the irony? From what I understand, the epidemic is Fijian Flu - but the vaccine we've all been getting was against American A (good old WHO - ****ed up their tracking big time). I'm just dreading to see how many babies and old folk are in the body count when it's over. ![]()
.
Also good also to see you so busy! Have you gotten your place back in shape?
The police sent their own workers round within days of the incident, to do the measuring up. Meantime, the deadline for the local authority (the landlord) to get the work completed start to finish came and went.... and nobody had even showed up to inspect the work needed.
I had to get my representatives onto the case, and threaten to use local govt. rules against the council, for them to take it seriously. (The rules allow that where they fail to meet a repairs deadline, I have the right to bring in outside contractors to do it, and direct the bill to them to settle up). i finally had them phoning frantically, making hasty arrangements with me for convenient access for their team to inspect and measure up.
Now we will see how long it takes for them to actually do the repair work. BTW, interesting to nore... I contacted all my reps, and the only one who took any interest was the Lib-Dem. The two labour people didn't even care enough to return my call!
Seems they only notice citizens' existence when they are sending out their leaflets begging for votes at election time. Labour are a real scum party at all levels of government. ![]()
Hi, Dale.
Sounds like I missed a message about an unfortunate happenstance -- care to summarize? And I do hope things turn out ok soon...

You didn;t miss it, as it was something I said by emails not forum. briefly though, I had my place trashed by the police couple months back. They were after a friend of the drug-scum who lived next door to me, and chased him around the district before he came into our building to hide.
They entered by my kitchen window mistaking it for part of his address, and smashed in every internal door in my home (I always lock them when I'm out), looking for him. I got home the next morning (event occured about 2:30 AM and I was on my night shift at work), to fine my window totally boarded up and my house alarm triggered.
All I got was a hand scrawled note saying not to worry I wasn't burgled, citing an incident number. I've had to do a lot of chasing around, and finally got two station commanders to trat this seriously, but still not received a formal apology (which shows how arrogant the local police are).
This has left me not trusting them any longer, and the next time they came a-visitng the drug-scum kicking at his door, I went out to supervise them, to ensure they left my newly re-glazed window alone. Thankfully, scum has gone now, and the place is security grilled over for the next few months so the local drug trash get the message to keep away.
We were burglarized about 20 years back, with lots less damage than you recount, and I still recall the sense of invasion. For it to be done by the police, without even an apology, is inexcusible. Here you'd reported to one of the "consumer reports" on the local TV station, and the situation would be rectified post-haste because the cops don't like bad PR. No such mechanism over there?

Hi, Dale.
They're very concerned here, too -- there have been five deaths of children in Colorado in the last week or so. The experts say that the flu strain has mutated some from the one used to prepare this year's vaccine, so it's only partially effective. For a story about it, check out Flu claims 2 more Colorado children. And if you really want some grim news, check out the video link embedded in the story, where a leading expert says we will have a world-wide flu pandemic that will kill tens of millions in the next ten years.

Dave,
"And if you really want some grim news, check out the video link embedded in the story, where a leading expert says we will have a world-wide flu pandemic that will kill tens of millions in the next ten years."
Some believe that this is a cog in the wheel of reducing world population from 6 billion to 500 million.
That's bad news, and it is certainly a killer. Here they are calling in almost exclusic=vely about this epidemic, and even those who had the shot are affected.
Symptoms are varying at the start, but intense. Stomach pains, nausea, vomitting, headache and nexk pain. Worse yet, the throat is swelling up making breathing and swallowing intensely difficult, which means people can't eat or take much needed fluids properly.
I had one report in of a 4 day old baby who has it, which needed an instant emergency admission response, and another small child needed admission for an injection to fight severe dehydration, which is the biggest problem with this.
People are scared, as the docs are only giving paracetamol or ibuprofen to control the severe temperature, since there is no infection to fight against. Some offer Amoxil (anti-biotics), but it does not good.
Even supplying any meds is mostly hopeless, as the inability to swallow coupled with the vomitting means most are telling me they can't keep them down if they try taking them.
My last shift, I called in seventeen ambulance emergency call-outs because of this thing, and it is only to get worse as Christmas approaches. nort looking forward to that, as I'm rostered to work both Christmas and Boxing days, and we are currently under staffed.
Dale's post when I read it last night had the F word in clear.
Ian
now has been modified. I had just passed it off as thinking that CNet was now going to take the Supreme Court decision about the censor of the F word as pertains to it being used in situations on TV.
Have not seen a edit to a post before, and didn't know that feature was now available with the new system, but possible in the future.
JR
... and was surprised to find the word for a bundle of sticks filtered to ******** in my preview. Maybe rather than activating an edit function, they added the word to some profanity list.
This software does seem to be retroactive in terms of changes. Recently I had reason to go back a few pages as I was away for several days. All posts by the formerly registered as Tim Alden now have "posted by T Lee" since he changed the name. So I'm thinking that if they added the word to a filter it would be edited retroactively.
If there is an edit function, I thought it was to be displayed who edited what and when.

Hi, John.
All I know is that I can't edit -- I could guess who can, but that's all it would be.

Thanks Dave, so Mods can't. Must be Lee K. or a hacker/cracker who can 'thump'. ![]()
They turned them on today though, as I used it again in another post earlier, and it asterisked it out at the preview post stage. Gee, maybe if I'd "Cep my mouf shut" they wouldn't have noticed, huh? ![]()
TBH, I think the ban of that word is stupid. The context in which I used it was the Brit/Aus version of the US "screwed up", so it makes allowing screwed up acceptable while our way of talking is not acceptable, somewhat double standards. Nope, not yank bashing, but since "screw" also means the same as the F word in the sex area, to ban one but not the other is bloody stupid.
Still if filter is on/off, a post got edited. Oh ***, should make no screwing difference to me. ![]()
and he said he was pissed off.
From that day forth, everyone said clearly when they were pissed off.
I've never understood why the word for peeing is OK, and the word for crapping is not OK,
or why its OK to say I took a crap, but not OK to say I took a ****.
Ian
I edited the profanity in Dale's post--digging around the forum software I found a way to edit messages.
I will only be using this admin tool on very rare occassions. In the future if I do edit a message I will leave a signature with the date and time stamp when I had done so. I apologize for not doing this for Dale's post.
With that said, please try to keep the forums free of profanity.
thank you all!

The thread on this subject has grown huge and is too much for my dial up connection from the UK, so I have abandoned that one. If I bookmarked the last page it may be feasable but all that sort of thing is a pain in the ***.
Nice to see you on again.
If you read the long thread about the same thing, you will see that unfortunately even SE is pretty packed with gay hate...
Charlie,
I'm NOT one of "those", but I could hardly resist this:
Better watch your use of "pretty packed" when speaking of gays. ![]()
Sick joke, I know, but somebody was bound to think of it, no?
Tim
maybe it's just your definition of the word "hate"...
but your statement pissed me off...
i didn't see anybody mention:
string 'em up
burn them at the stake
put them on a reservation
chemically/surgically castrate them
put 'em out on the ice
run them out of town
don't let them buy a house
etc
etc
etc
etc.........
isn't it about time that you realised that not everybody who disagrees with your point of view does not necessarily hate what you love.....
Hate also means EXTREME DISLIKE, DISGUST, REVULSION etc.! And AFAIK there are quite a few people in SE who feel an extreme dislike/disgust, revulsion for gay people. Did you feel you were one of those members that I said HATE gay people? If so, why?
And I also find it interesting how you choose to argue with ME in this matter, since the original poster also used the word HATE in the subject line. Maybe that?s why I used it too. And obviously you chose to argue with me about it. Why?
AFA what I love, you are completely wrong. I love my friends whether they are gay or not. I love them because of WHO they are, not for their sexual preferences. I couldn?t care less about that! I don?t love gay people BECAUSE they are gay. I am sure there are plenty of nuts among gay people as well as there are among every other group in our societies. But you seem to DISLIKE gays BECAUSE they are gay! That?s the one of the many differences between you and me!
and again, not everybody who disagrees with you is "arguing" with you...
i'm starting to believe that you, and others of your ilk, have an inferiority complex the size of Nebraska, or why else see every post that doesn't agree with you as either "arguing" or "a personal attack" or "posting hate filled messages"...
... it would seem logical to address you on that issue, no?
I have quite a few gay friends and acquaintances. Some I like (even love) and hence call friends, some I dislike for reasons other than their sexual orientation. I treat everyone as an individual unless they choose to associate themselves with "group think" attitudes. IOW, I'm quite sure you have encountered some who consider themselves gay first and as brother, banker, baseball player, musician, etc. second. If anyone dislikes them, they assume it is because that person is homophobic. I've not encountered that with the gays I know personally, but I have encountered that sort of attitude with a few women and blacks. There are some who will always blame race first or cry sexism where it's not even an issue. As an example, Michael Jackson is now playing the race card.
You stated in another thread that you will always support the minority. Now you say that you love the individual not the various group identities they may have. These two are inconsistent, and so I'm a bit confused as to which it is? If you always support a minority then you are saying that merely being black, gay, Jewish, whatever, makes an individual worthy of support no matter if they might cheat, steal or even kill. You'll find it is just as likely for any minority to be obnoxious, hateful, violent, racist, sexist, arrogant, whatever as you will find in the majority.
I said "I love my friends whether they are gay or not. I love them because of WHO they are, not for their sexual preferences. I couldn?t care less about that! I don?t love gay people BECAUSE they are gay. I am sure there are plenty of nuts among gay people as well as there are among every other group in our societies."
You said "Now you say that you love the individual not the various group identities they may have."
You also state that "If you always support a minority then you are saying that merely being black, gay, Jewish, whatever, makes an individual worthy of support no matter if they might cheat, steal or even kill."
There is a huge difference here. I never mentioned that I did LOVE the group but that they have my sympathies. What does that mean? Simply that I sympathize with the minorities (I should actually have said the "rather powerless" minorities), but that doesn't include every individual as you state!
Do you symapthize with the USA? I assume you do. Does that mean that you LOVE or sympathize every single individual? No, of course not! Do you sympathize with those who want lower taxes? Yes, I think you do. But that doesn't mean you LOVE or sympathize every single individual who wants lower taxes. Do you sympathize with the US troops in Iraq? I guess you do. Do you think there is more than one person that you wouldn't even want to talk to on the phone due to the personality of the same? I guess so too.
It wasn't that hard to figure out, was it?
