shva=1 -- Is my Gmail account compromised?

Jul 30, 2010 2:27PM PDT

When logging into my Gmail account, I am accustomed to seeing this URL: https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox

However, frequently I see this URL instead: https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox

The Gmail help forum is full of posts from people who see the same thing, but nobody seems to know whether this URL poses a security risk. Google steadfastly refuses even to respond to our concern, much less address it.

Is this, in fact, a security issue?

Surely not!

I was under the impression that the Hindu Deity you are reffering to was SHIVA, and not SHVA.

That makes your post not relevant to the OP's question.

In fact the answer was not difficult to find. SHVA is an acronym for "should have valid authentication" as detailed in; http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2010/07/gmails-shva-parameter.html

Sadly we did not answer this question when it was raised, in July 2010
