Shutting down during startup

Nov 27, 2003 2:06AM PST

Every 3rd or 4th time I turn on my computer it shuts down again right after the Windows splash screen. Then when I turn it on again it tries to start up in safe mode. The other option is to make a "bootlog".The file is too big to post here, but there is one "failed" in it...Dynamic load failed 0 : [00138AB2] File not found
I don't know how to fix this.I've tried system restore but it didn't change anything.

Thanks.

The problem is there is not enough information to give much direction. This could be a hardware issue, but we'll leave that up to you to give more clues before the hardware angles are tackled.

Next, it's important that you KNOW each and every item that is in your STARTUP LIST. I would use the STARTER tool I noted at http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 to show what is on your startup list as well as consider HIJACKTHIS for deeper inspection.

These are not cures, but exploration tools since nothing has been determined yet.

FYI it turned out to be the free Sygate personal firewall causing the problem.Uninstalled it and have had no probs for 2 weeks.
