show/hide problem plz help ASAP

Dec 20, 2004 6:58PM PST

In a very long doc we have, if you turn on show/hide, you of course get the paragraph symbol, but it also is inserting wording in this form {XE- name of that page} . Now to delete this manually would take days, and it canno be submitted as is. Need a quick way to elimanate all. Tried find and replace, cannot copy/paste this, so entered it manually, to no avail, it would find them as if they are hidden but they must leave, plz help

These are index entries.

PKPrague,

Somebody must have inserted them manually to appear in an index. They don't harm if you don't make an index so it's best in my opinion to leave them as is.

Or write a macro to find and delete them all, if you like. I suppose it can be done. But I shouldn't do it.

More in index entries, for example, here: http://www.rdg.ac.uk/ITS/Topic/WordProc/WoP2Kind01/#Contents

Hope this helps.

1. Don't make an index. What do some extra (normally invisible) fields in the document matter?
2. Delete them by hand (takes some time).
3. Study MS Word VBA to see if you can delete them programmatically.
