Shoveling snow ... at 60 degrees ...

Feb 29, 2004 8:14AM PST

Hard as it is to believe, I had to shovel snow yesterday in 60 degree weather. It was weird shoveling in shirt sleeves.

We got about 6" of snow on Friday, enough to shut down a good bit of the county since we don't have a lot of snow removal equipment. The the temperature came up yesterday, the snow on the roads melted, and things looked great. Only problem is, my garage doors are on the north side and it can take days for the snow and ice to clear even in moderate weather. In the meantime the cars are prone to lurch sideways when they transition from snow/ice to dry pavement. I'm worried that somebody will try to take out a garage door one of these days.

So anyway, I decided to eliminate the problem by shoveling the snow away from the garage door. In 60 degree weather.

Wink

Anyway, glad ya'll getting out all right. I was fortunate and had no road difficulties to deal with thank goodness.

Hopefully, it's all behind us now, even if the biggest snow in my lifetime started on March 1, 1980. The 10 day forecast looks pretty good, and after that hopefully it'll be too late.

Of course with March and April, all we have to worry about are supercell thunderstorms and tornados. Oh well, seasons change.

That reminds me of a snowstorm in Jackson, MS

It would have been in the late 80s (87-89) but I can't remember which year. The storm started on March 31 and ran over into April 1. Snow in Jackson for April Fool's day. The snow melted within hours since we didn't get all that much, but I still found it humorous.

Actually this was March 1, 1980, in Greenville NC

Offically 19 inches of snow, a record I think.

It started about 9 Sat morning, March 1 and didn't end until sometime after Midnight Sunday. Lighting thunder, gusty winds, and blinding snow. Buried my 1975 Plymouth Duster completely, had to dig it out. It was piled up around until the next weekend in spots I think.

Most I've ever seen in eastern NC.
