Shouting "Fire" in Crowded Theatre, or "Collapse" on Bridge

by James Denison / November 23, 2010 12:34 AM PST

Which is worse? I'll have to go with yelling the bridge is collapsing and panicking people into a stampede that kills over 340 hurts hundreds more.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/11/23/cambodia.festival.deaths/index.html

The death toll from a stampede at a Cambodian festival has risen to 345, the country's official news agency said Tuesday.

In addition to the deaths, another 391 people were injured at the annual Water Festival in the capital city of Phnom Penh on Monday, the AKP news agency said.

Cambodia has declared Thursday a national day of mourning for those who died in the crush, AKP reported. The country has also set up a commission to look into the incident.

Black Friday brawls: Shopping starts to get ugly

Part of a Cerritos, Calif., shopping mall was locked down after a fight broke out in a food court between Black Friday shoppers.

The fight was between six men who began throwing chairs, local TV station KTLA reported. Although initial reports said shots were fired, police have determined there were no guns used in the fight and no one was injured.

The brawl was one of only a few reports of bad behaviour on the busiest shopping day of the year in the U.S.

I used to go to them...
by James Denison / November 26, 2010 7:17 AM PST

...the first years they started the early morning openings. That first year I got 3 scanners for $10 each, microtek, 300 dpi. One for me, two for gifts, and all of them long gone to Salvation Army or Goodwill now. They became more popular, more people showed up early, line cutting happened, tempers flared, I quit going to them. Eventually Best Buy and the Walmart nearby had police there to keep things honest, but I'd grown tired of them and the "deals" just weren't as good and plentiful as they'd been earlier.

Computer City gone. Circuit City gone? CompUSA just a website owned by someone else now. At least Radio Shack remains. Best Buy doesn't have much big box competition, at least not directly now. I guess their main competition now would be Staples, Office Depot for office type stuff, and some major Online sellers.

Has more but the stores for the most part have little of what they used to have. Then again, no more TV antennas anywhere.

In reply to: The web site.

To be sent to my dad. Yes, from radio shack, the $13 rabbit ears, till he can get new cable service. I contemplated sending him one of those outdoor antenna and let him put on a tension pole in the house, see if it would do better, but he's 80 and I doubt he'd be able to fix that up now.
