Resolved Question

Should I wait for next iPad to clear up display issues?

Jan 7, 2014 9:53AM PST

Hi there,

After much consideration, I decided a couple weeks ago to buy the 128 GB Cellular iPad Air. When I first got it, I was surprised to see that the screen was much warmer than my iPhone 5 and iPad 3. After some brief investigation I found out about the widespread yellowing and began to notice an obvious gradient across the device.

I returned to the Apple Store in Toronto (1.5 hours away) to exchange. After opening 5 iPads with various defects, I settled with the one I am using now. However after getting it home, I can see that yellowing is present, along with backlight bleed and a dead pixel.

After spending over $1050 with Ontario's massive 13% sales tax, plus a case, I want a perfect device.

A family member is helping to pay for the extra storage because he's a pilot and wants the use of the ForeFlight app for iPad since he doesn't have one himself. This app can take over 30 GB with Canada and US maps plus more storage over time with extra add-ons. The cellular model is also needed because of its GPS for use in-flight. Also, no other tablet is an option because lack of support for these types of apps that have already been purchased.

So, assuming I need the top of the line model, should I return to the Apple Store and continue trying to find the 'perfect' screen, should I return it and wait and see how the next iPad looks, or should I return it and just hold on to my money, maybe buy a cheap iPad Mini?

Thanks in advance

Okay. Thanks for the advice. I think right now I'd rather have the money in my pocket.
