Question

Should I upgrade or buy new?

Mar 1, 2014 11:39AM PST

Hi,

First time writing a post... I'm sorry if the question already exists.

I'm getting a lot of issues with my graphics card failing and my system is running a little slow. Sometimes it resolves itself, however a lot of the time I need to fully reboot my computer. I get the issue most while playing games (BF4 specifically).

It's about 2 years old. I'm currently running RipjawX 8gb DDR3 RAM, a GTX580 (with the most up to date driver), intel core i7-2600CPU @3.40GHZ, and a gigabyte GA-Z68XP-D3 mobo.

(Also running a 2TB HDD and a SSD too).

My plan was to just buy a new GPU and another 8GB of RAM.

Just wanted some peoples opinions on if I should buy the new parts or build a new system?

How about try cheap.....clean.
Get a can of compressed air and a small brush.
Remove the side cover and give the innards a good cleaning.
Remove the video card...so you can see what your doing...get it nice and spiffy clean.
Put the video card back in its slot.
Leave the side cover off....test.

Thanks for the answers, I'll have a try cleaning it and see if it improves. If not I'll buy a new card. I guess if it comes down to it I can always use a new card if I have to buy a new system. Thanks!
