Question

Should I upgrade ?

Aug 15, 2012 11:25PM PDT

I currently own a 15" mid 2009 Macbook Pro which i absolutely love, but im wondering if its time to upgrade. I am currently studying IT and multimedia at uni and with the programs i use (garageband, final cut with HD film, photoshop, flash, after effects etc and i multitask a fair bit) my Macbook is getting slower and slower. I considered upgrading the ram but the maximum on this computer is 4gb which i already have. My question is should I buy the new Macbook Pro Retina Display ?

I'm going with no.

The disk space is a premium on that new model and any desktop would be a better idea for grinding on video editing.

Many get a desktop for the hard work and use the laptop for mobile work.

I'd also say no

I'd also say no. You might consider getting a 15" Early 2011, the model right before the retina. That would get you a Core i5 CPU at the very least, since you have a Core 2 Duo now. But Bob's idea really is the better one. Get a desktop for the heavy lifting and then just use the laptop for killing time between classes and maybe doing a little homework.
