Should I replace my broken digital camera or fix it?

May 15, 2007 10:57PM PDT

I have a Nikon digital camera that is about 2 years old now and the electronic zoom is frozen after it fell off a table onto a tiled floor.

I've taken it to my local camera store and am told that it will cost around $250 or $300 to fix it. The only problem with that is for around $500 I can get the latest version seems to be a lot better. This is probably a pretty common question but the problem is that I'm happy with the shots that it takes (before broken) and I really don't need all of the extra stuff with the new one....why should I pay for all the features that I just won't use?

If anyone could guide me on this it may save a few grey hairs...thanks.

camera, vcr, and dvd player; it's cheaper to buy. Especially when it's on sale (I recently bought a Panasonic for under $100).

Broken Nikon

Without knowing the model number of the Nikon that is broken, no one can give you a valid answer.

So.......what model Nikon are you asking about?

CoolPix 5600

It's a Nikon CoolPix 5600. There must be some places online that can give me a good indication of the best prices around I assume... (just want to double check what the guy at the store is telling me). Thanks!

Nikon 5600

That camera is out of production, but some stores still have some.

I found one site that has them for $150.

...........

The price you were quoted for repair is outrageous.

But the camera is really not worth repairing, because any repairs by Nikon will cost over $100. And likely to come close to the price of a replacement camera.

Time to look for a replacement camera.

I rekon you should go for a replacement

Go, for a replacement.

You brought that camera for $300-500 dollars and you can get them now for 100 dollars.

1: You will have a brand new camera! (brand knew photos)

2: Its way cheaper

3: You will have a longer battery life

4:you will have learned you lesson, to be carefull with your camera

But anyway mabe you should try and go for a upgrade and get a newer camera model. Made you should go for a casio exilim ex-z50

The reason for this is because it is very similar to your camera and its got a higher megapixel quality! your chioce
