should i repair/ refurb my sony trv38? will sony do that?

i am he proud owner of a sony trv38 (one that doens not have the bad lcd!) -- had it for 3 years now and it has perfromed flawlessly. trouble is, the motor is making a bit of a hum, i assume it's the drum of the heads spinning around . . . I can hear it "spin down" when the camera goes off.

is this thing in imminent peril of breaking, and

if I take sony up on their flat rate repair, would they replace the motor and the heads as part of their $211 flat rate deaL? i would love to refurb this thing and have it for another 3 years hassle free!

any experience/ advice to share would be welcomed, fj
