should i install?

by karen311 / November 29, 2009 3:39 AM PST

About 3or4 months ago I installed the big three..(comodo firewall, spyware terminator and avira antivirus which all work like a charm. my os is vista basic. Comodo is now advising that I install the newer and improved version along with Avira antivirus. My question is should I install and if I do , do I have to uninstall my existing programs of avira and comodo. And where should i place all the existing files, any advice you can give me would greatly be be appreciated. Thank you Karen

When it comes to updating anti-virus software, always do it. When you download the new versions, they should automatically replace the old versions.

When It Comes To Avira, It's Best To Remove the Old First

The new installation does NOT do a good job of uninstalling the old version 8 before installing version 9.. In fact, there is a registry cleanup tool offered by Avira which ferrets out any left over remnants. See the correct uninstall instructions in the link below:

And beware regarding the newest Comodo.. If you had the firewall only version before, you may not be able to get such now.. It is now a firewall + antivirus combo.. As such, you shouldn't be installing both Avira and the Comodo AV. One such program is best so be selective when reinstalling Comodo to deselect the antivirus portion of the install. And just my experience with such upgrade installations, it's usually best to manually uninstall the old first before reinstalling the new.

Hope this helps.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
