Should I Get AVG?

Oct 14, 2005 6:31AM PDT

My old computer really sucks but its still usable, and I think that my current antivirus app is slowing it down even more.

I am using F-Secure Antivirus that came with my internet. It is a big resource hog, the speed difference can be felt when I disable it, everything is quite a bit slower.

I don't know if I should switch to AVG, from what I've heard, its very good and is not a resource hog. What do you guys think?

NOD32 beat AVG on memory or resource usage.

Try them, Sam I am.

But there is another difference

AVG has a free version for home use; NOD32 costs $39 for the first year and (currently) $23.40 for an annual renewal. There is a Family pack for 2, 3, 4, or 5 Computers that offers a slight discount. For my three systems it would be $82 for the first year and then a little over $60 per year thereafter.

Although I can have McAfee free from my ISP, I currently am using AVG on two of my systems and the free version of Avast on the third as a test. They do have some different features, but at present I would be hard pressed to really justify one over the other -- at least in my configurations and uses.

So, the choice is yours; the somewhat greater efficiency of NOD32 vs. the zero cost of AVG or Avast. If you choose a free one, I suggest you check out the features of AVG and Avast and see which better suits your needs. Both are top rated.

Hope this helps
