Question

Should I change my motherboard?

Mar 22, 2018 10:11AM PDT

Hey there!
So I have an portable computer: Asus N552VX-FY07T with a processor Intel’s Core i7-6700HQ, graphics Nvidia GeForce 950M and hard drive 128Gb SSD + 1 Tb.
I had an accident with my computer and my motherboard went to hell... I don’t understand much about computers, so my question is: should I change my motherboard or invest on another pc?

This is usually a FINANCIAL EXERCISE.

Ask the questions.

1. How much to repair your Asus.
2. How much to replace your Asus.

If the motherboard is toast it's usually over half the price of a new laptop.

Answer
If You Mean a "Damage" Type Of Accident, Then....

If the accident you're referring to actually did damage to the motherboard, then who knows what else was broken during the accident. As such, especially with an expensive laptop like yours, my opinion is to get a new laptop. The screen could have been damaged, the hard drive, or any other parts. Of course, you could take to a repair shop and "maybe" they would find any other issues that could have been created during the accident but "maybe" they wouldn't. Eventually it could come back to haunt you later.

On the other hand, if you decide to get a new motherboard, be sure to replace it with the same motherboard model from the factory. If not, then your recovery disks may not work like expected.

Hope this helps.
