Question

Should a 2014 Smart Remote work with a 2014 Series 5 TV?

by MikeGB01 / November 14, 2014 4:14 AM PST

I have recently purchased a BN59-01185B (which I believe is the same as a RMC30C1) 2014 Smart Remote to go with my UE32H5500 2014 Smart TV, after reading the good review on CNET.

Unfortunately, I have discovered that the remote doesn't appear to work with this model and, although there is no mention on any Samsung website, I have found third party websites which indicate that the remote can only be used with Series 6 models and above.

Can anyone please confirm whether the remote should work or not? and, if not, whether there is likely to be a software upgrade for 2014 Series 5 TVs?

Model number clarification
by MikeGB01 / November 14, 2014 4:35 AM PST

Thanks for your immediate reply. The full model name is UE32H5500AKXXU. This is a UK model. I believe that the US equivalent is UN32H5500AFXZA. The samsung.com website does not mention the model number of the remotes that work with this TV, although the video implies that the TV has full smart remote functionality.

Maybe you want some USB Wireless thing?

Let's look for the usual clues. Your set looks to be at:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/UE32H5500AKXXU

So I'll have to defer to Samsung UK for your question, HOWEVER most folk want a better keyboard/mouse/remote. Let's see if the usual clues are noted.
"Connecting a USB Keyboard" in the manual. Try that.

Nod to the usual Logitech K400.

USB Bluetooth dongle?
by MikeGB01 / November 14, 2014 8:09 AM PST

Thanks Bob for the link.

Looking at the e-mail, it states that the 'Using the Smart Control - The Samsung Smart Control is only available with the LED 6400 and 7100 series. It may not be supported Samsung Smart Control depending on the country'

The 'Smart Control Settings' are not listed under 'System' and there is no option for 'Add Bluetooth keyboard' under 'Keyboard settings', so I guess the Smart Remote cannot be used. This makes Samsung's '2014 Smart TV' promotional material rather misleading.

My only further thought is whether it might be possible to get the Smart Remote to work by plugging a USB Bluetooth dongle into the TV?

That's an easy no.

This is not a PC but it appears that USB HID is there so the K400 may be as smart as we can make it.

Thanks Bob. My conclusion is that the Samsung 2014 Smart TV promotional material is really rather misleading on this matter.

I was looking for such material.

I only found what I found. In the future, a link to the material and full model numbers could speed things along. Also, calling Samsung in your country is faster too.

Sorry but I was guessing you wanted a better interface to the smart bits.

I can't find that remote.

I wonder if the picture is throwing you off here. That is, I see that same image with the remote used all over but the remotes for the 32 inch don't show but one remote.

Perils of re-using photos? The accessories link is MIA so I had to read the manual and look around. A phone call may be needed here to get an official answer but from what I can tell there is no text offering such a remote.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
