General discussion

Shorten the length of a .wav file. . .

Feb 13, 2006 9:35PM PST

I have a .wav file that I want to use as the incomming call signal for my cell phone. It's of my diesel pickup starting on a cold day.

http://24.23.89.36/powerstroke.wav

It's 14 seconds long and I want to shorten it to about 7. I'm running XP SP2 and have WMP-9 and the standard Sound Recorder. I can start both utilities, start the file playing, start the recorder, but nothing is recorded.

What am I doing wrong?

Wayne, Make Sure The Recording Settings Are Correct..
Feb 13, 2006 11:39PM PST

In order to use Sound Recorder from WMP, on this XP machine, RIGHT click on the "speaker" icon in the lower right corner, choose "Adjust Audio Properties". (You can also access this from the Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices" option) When the next window loads, click on the "Audio" tab, then click on the "Volume" button in the "Sound Recording section. Next, make sure the "Wave Out Mix" or "Stereo mix" box has a CHECK mark in it..("Line In" won't do it.)Then adjust the volume slider to a medium level. Close the window and try again.

YOu should now be able to record anything that is playable through the speakers of the computer.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm. . .

Thanks, but it's not the size, it's the duration. I got it so you can delete it. I'll have to work on shortening the duration. Both files run about 6 seconds, I want about 4.

I'll delete it now.

You did say "It's 14 seconds long and I want to shorten it to about 7." so I fugured 6.5 would be "about" 7 Wink.
