Shortcuts Automaically Created

Jul 2, 2009 3:22AM PDT

Hi,

I really hope that someone can help.

Everytime I open a file in a folder a shortcut is automatically created either in my documents, my usb stick or external drives.

I assume that there is something wrong with the settings on my computer (and it is not a problem on the usb or external drives as they work fine on other computers).

It really is annoying and I have to spend ages deleting everytime I open a file.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Karl

Two questions...
Jul 5, 2009 1:56AM PDT

1.) How have you tried opening the files? Double-clicking them? Right-clicking them and selecting Open? Launching the respective application and opening the files using the File->Open option? Does the issue persist with all of them?

2.) Where, in relation to the original file, is the shortcut created? Always in the same folder, a specific folder, or a random folder?

Let us know.
John

Two usual suspects...
Jul 11, 2009 1:50PM PDT

1.) A keyboard or mouse driver glitch. Try reinstalling the latest drivers.

2.) A malfunctioning shell extension. Launch Internet Explorer (yes, Internet Explorer) and disable any/all unnecessary add-ons (Tools->Internet Options->Programs->Manage add-ons).

Hope this helps,
John
