General discussion

shopping online at BestPriceCameras.com

Dec 8, 2005 2:33PM PST

I have found an incredible deal on a Panasonic PV-GS250 at BestPriceCameras.com for $519.00. This price is around $200.00+ less than any online competitor. They say if it's too good to be true than it is. I am concerned about shopping at this web site. Has anyone purchased anything from this web site? They say they have been in business for 7 years.

Yes, it's too good to be true. I checked on a Canon 20D, and

found an extremely low price incvluding two lenses. I noticed several things. The price includes:

a Canon 20D camera body
2 lenses with manufacturer not specified
no battery
no strap
no CD with software
no cables
a bunch of other noname crap

I also googled the place, and found several reports of abuse. One tactic is to sell without a battery, and pressure you to add an expensive one to the package. A Brooklyn web site run by people who also have other camera/electronics web sites.

Stay away was the operative advice.

Yeah, unfortunately iit is to good to be true. I found their price on a Canon 20D to be the lowest by a good margin. After placing an internet order, I was called to get me to buy x filters, y lenses, etc. When I found out that the battery wasn't even included in the price (just the body and the lens, thats it) I tried to just add it. When that was all I wanted to add to my order, the shipping time curiously went from next day to 4-6 weeks. Bottom line, slimy.
