General discussion

shopping for a capture program/device

Oct 10, 2006 1:39AM PDT

I have a Plextor ConvertX Capture device, but am unhappy with the bundled software, WinDVD. I'm looking at a Pinaacle device, but a new program would be cheaper. I just need to be able to capture to a file format compatible wiht Adobe Premiere and Movie Maker. Any ideas??

Analog source? Not Camcorder MiniDV?

The usual I use is a Hauppaugge PCI TV/Capture card. This and ATI models for 39 or so bucks work fine to get the capture step done. NONE integrate with the video editor so if that is what you want then expect to pay a lot more.

Here's a cheap USB 2.0 capture device -> http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=AVC-1400&cat=CON

I'm mostly capturing from the RCA cables of an Xbox 360 or a VCR.

That device looks like just what I'm looking for. Have you used it with any editing programs?

It does not work with any editing programs.

It only captures to a file then I can edit that file.

Sorry to see it won't meet your requirement.

IDK if a pinnacle will work tho, cinsidering Pinnacle software is kinda rivals with adobe, but they seem to make the best capture devices

Changing specs?

"I just need to be able to capture to a file format compatible wiht Adobe Premiere and Movie Maker."

The item I noted will do that. Later you asked it work directly with Premiere and MM. Very few devices do that. Even Pinnacle.

Why isn't a capture to a file you can edit not good enough?

yeah nottin USB works with Premiere. IF it makes generic files, thats sufficent.
