Shopping for a 65" Flat Screen Smart HDTV

Jul 23, 2016 6:30AM PDT

I've noticed that there are no tv makers that haven't had major problems with their sets along with their bad customer service depts. So I'm beginning to think that if you buy one of their sets, it's a crap shoot. You may get a sweet tv with very little problems, excellent tech support, super customer service or that nightmare of a tv. Looking at Samsung,Vizio and Sony. Can't find an archived CNET review that fits my bill. CNET, can you help me in my search?

I'd take the Smart part and shop for PQ instead.

All the makers have poor web browsers plus horrible records on support a few years out.

So I agree there are major problems in the Smart part.

Are there any models that don't have the Smart Hub and what does PQ mean?

I thought PQ was not going to fly. That's Picture Quality.

Now about what you asked. All the high end models with exceptions will be smart. We just ignore that and shop for PQ.

This area is now moving again with HDR and more OLED TVs showing it. I'm hanging back for a few months to revisit replacing my old LCD cloudy 60Hz HDTV. It will do while the industry reformulates the models.

http://www.cnet.com/topics/tvs/best-tvs/picture-quality/ has 2 models that I would consider today. The flat ones. One is not a name I have liked but at the price I would try it with a 3+ year warranty to see where the price falls.
