Sad. But, not on a scale of others.

I'd love to hear her loved one's reaction to that sentiment.

No doubt her family is sad, but not surprised. She took herself out, as I understand the story. They had tried to help her, as had others. Like gays, alcoholics and others mentioned in these threads from time to time, something not quite right about her makeup. Hers proved fatal to her, but it ends there.
Jehovah reads the hearts, he says. Could he resurrect her in his new world, for a second chance? Or is it only the 'good' who get that reward? It's up to him. In the meantime, she sleeps.

like the prophet Samuel?

Like Moses and Elijah who conversed with Jesus on Mount of Olives? Talking in their "sleep"? You like Ecclesiastes. What does it say about death? chapter 12.

Remember Him before the silver cord is broken and the golden bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the well is shattered and the wheel at the cistern is crushed; then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Luke 23:46
Then Jesus called out in a loud voice, "Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit." And when He had said this, He breathed His last.

Acts 7:59
While they were stoning him, Stephen appealed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

only in the sense that...

...the body is laid down and the conciousness (spirit) has gone else where. Even the elemental spirits and familiar spirits are not "sleeping" in the sense you take it, they are just bodiless.

"only in the sense that" you want to believe...

Those medieval superstitions do hang on.
Old song: "Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die."* So, people invent religions that promise immortality. [Not immorality; that's the Gnostics.] Or, they will twist a perfectly good teaching about death into a bad one. That's dangerous, because it gives rise to false hopes. It also calls jehovah a liar, as Satan did.
Gen 2:7 in your beloved KJV [not one of the 20,000 errors this time] says "and the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man BECAME a living soul." Note three things here:
Man, the BODY, made of dust; cf. Gen 3:19.
BREATH, which in Hebrew is the word for spirit also, an invisible active force [ruach]. Like wind, like electricity if they had had it then. Like holy spirit, the active force OF God. [Preposition emphasized for the usual reason.]
SOUL, a living creature. Not "immortal", because Joshua killed all the souls in Makkedah; 10:28. Because all souls die; Eze 18:4. Animals are souls; Num 31:28.
"Immortal soul" is a common phrase which people believe is in the Bible; it is not. Neither is soul a "spirit"; Heb 4:12.
All this has been in your beloved KJV [not one of the 20,000 errors this time] for over 400 years.
Death is the end of life, without Jehovah.
But, the contrary teaching is in the Bible, for those who want to consider it. "And the serpent said unto the woman, 'Ye shall not surely die'".

1 Thessalonians 5:23 -

"Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [that is, separate you from profane and vulgar things, make you pure and whole and undamaged—consecrated to Him—set apart for His purpose]; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete and [be found] blameless at the coming of our Lord ..."

Matthew 10:28 - And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul:

Accept the Bible teaching, not Watch Tower Error.
